  2. WHAT IS A BEHAVIOR CONTRACT? • An agreement between student and teacher. • Other professionals. • Will state goals for the student to meet including the teacher’s role in the process. • Signatures make it official! 

WHAT CHARACTERISTICS MAKE THIS STRATEGY NECESSARY FOR STUDENT(S) TO ACCESS THE GENERAL ED CURRICULUM? • ***This strategy reaches an area that many teachers may be apprehensive to confront which is behavior. *** • Sped students target challenges in different ways. • Strategy provides clear and simple steps.

HOW TO IMPLEMENT A CBC: 4 easy steps • Collect Data: • Information • Identify antecedents • Record data (make sure you have enough) • Develop a Behavior Management Plan: • Be explicit • What will you as the teacher be accountable for? • Can a point system be carried out effectively? • Seat arrangements • Keep it student centered • Focus on a minimum of 2 goals • Write the Behavior Contract: • Talk with the student • Make sure they understand • Allow them to be involved but stay in control (Identify student and teacher goals) • Make sure everyone feels comfortable and is in agreement • Implement the Contract: • Be consistent and provide positive reinforcement

  5. WHEN IS A BEHAVIOR CONTRACT BENEFICIAL? • When a student needs extra motivation to administer appropriate behavior.

  6. WHAT ARE THE MOST EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT WAYS TO IMPLEMENT THIS STRATEGY? • Be clear and specific. • Make sure the student understands in all aspects. • Be consistent. • Be the student’s advocate.

  7. WHAT POPULATIONS CAN BENEFIT FROM BEHAVIOR CONTRACTS? • ADHD AND EBD… BUT • OTHERS AS WELL 

  9. IMPLEMENTING THE STRATEGY DURING TESTING AND INSTRUCTION: • Be vigilant . • Give reminders! • Make the contract accessible to them.

  10. BOBBY • Bobby is 12 year old boy with EBD. When he has trouble with his individual assignment, 4 out of 5 times Bobby will cuss at the students around him and runs outside of the classroom. He usually runs to the nurses office. The students around him have agreed to help Bobby, but sometimes Bobby does not like being around the other students and just wants to be by himself. • What are some things we can include in our behavior contract for Bobby.
