ExploreQuestionsFirst • Why should you explore the questions? • Can you go on a scavenger hunt without knowing what to look for? • Before you read, read the questions first. • By reading the questions first, you know what to look for. • When you find the answers to the questions, underline it!
Read the Passage and picture it in your mind • Read the passage. • Picture in your mind what is happening. • Read one paragraph at a time and try to summarize what you read. • If you cannot summarize, reread.
Find the answer and underline • Did you know that most of the time the answer can be found? • When you find the answer in the story, underline it.
Eliminate the wrong answers • When you read the questions, sometimes you know what it isn’t. • Put an x on the answers that are NOT it. • When you mark an x on the wrong answers, mark it at the end of the sentence. • If you mark it too close to the answer it may pick it up.
Clarify and Monitor self • While you are reading, stop and ask yourself… Do I understand what is happening? • If you do, continue reading. • If you don’t reread or ask questions to help you understand
Think and connect! • A good reader always is thinking while reading. • They try to connect to the story. • They write comments, questions, and more on the side of the story. (Only if it is a passage) • If it is a book, they can write on sticky notes.
