  2. The term socialisationrefers to the process of learning one’s culture and how to live within it. For the individual it provides the resources necessary for acting and participating within their society. For the society, inducting all individual members into its moral norms, attitudes, values, motives, social roles, language and symbols is the ‘means by which social and cultural continuity are attained’ (Clausen 1968: 5).

Read the following article introducing the concept of socialisation : http://anthro.palomar.edu/social/soc_1.htm • From the article, list and explain at least five examples of the socialisation of children in a variety of cultures. • This article uses the word enculturation as does our Topic 1 syllabus. Use p.12 of our t/b to define enculturationand distinguish between this term and socialisation. • Identify, list and define five additional terms/words which enhance this response on the process of socialisation. • Complete the QUIZ at the end of this page!
