  4. Composition of theatmosphere • The atmosphere of our home planet is made up of three primary gases. These gases are oxygen 21%, nitrogen 78%, and argon 0.8%. In addition to these three gases there are many other gases in the atmosphere in small amounts. Additionally there are small particles floating in the atmosphere such as dust, water, and pollen by DONOS

  6. Layers of theatmosphere • The first layer of the atmosphere is made out of the gases that we breath everyday. This layer is called the troposphere. The troposphere is the layer that we live in. by DONOS

  7. Layers of theatmosphere • The next layer of our atmosphere is called the stratosphere. Above the stratosphere lies the mesosphere, followed by the thermosphere, and finally the exosphere. The mesosphere and thermosphere are often referred to together as the ionosphere because they reflect the ionized energy of the Sun. by DONOS

  8. Gases thataffectourweather • Most of the gases in our atmosphere have little to no affect on our weather. However, a few gases have a significant effect on the weather that we experience around the world. Carbon dioxide is one of these gases. Carbon dioxide has the unique characteristic of absorbing infrared radiation, or the heat sent to the Earth by the Sun. This helps to keep the lower atmosphere warm enough for life to exist. When you breath out, your body releases small amounts of carbon dioxide. by DONOS

  9. Gases thataffectourweather • Over the last hundred years humans have been artificially adding a significantly higher amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This has mainly been through the burning of fossil fuels. What will happen if carbon dioxide levels become too high? Many scientists believe that there is a possibility that the Earth’s temperature will rise causing many unpredictable effects known as “greenhouse effect” by DONOS

  10. Wateraffectsourweather The amount of water vapor found in the air remains constant on average, however, it can vary greatly from one place to another. Some parts of the Earth have high humidity levels, why other locations have very dry air. What effect does this water vapor have on the atmosphere. Much of what we consider weather is caused by water vapor. The clouds in the sky are largely made up of it, and it is the condensation of this vapor into droplets that creates rain and snow. by DONOS
