ANTIGUA & BARBUDA Antigua and Barbuda became an independent nation on 1 November 1981. Antigua has six parishes with an area of 108 square miles, a population of 66,000 persons. (Census May-2002). Barbuda has one parish with an area of 62 square Miles and a population of 1200 persons.
ANTIGUA • Has 1 public hospital with 187 beds. • Has 1 private hospital with 40 beds. • Has 1 privately-run medical school. • Has 9 health centres and 17 satelites clinics. • There is also a small hospital in Barbuda. • Barbuda is about 46 miles north of Antigua, and is about 16 minutes flying time.
