  2. Description Art for kids made easy! Parents will love the way this book shares art-making techniques that add variety and ease to creative projects, and provides insights on engaging kids in the process. Henri Rousseau Jungle Tiger Rousseau’s determination is an inspiring story and his art is equally appealing to children. One of his most famous paintings, Surprise!, features a tiger jumping out from behind jungle foliage. Drawing a hidden tiger is a great place to start this Rousseau-inspired art project. Big &Bold Painted Flowers If you are new to drawing and painting, sometimes it is easiest to start with a familiar subject that allows you to paint a simple shape with beautiful colors. These big and bold flowers are just the thing. James Rizzi Cardboard City My students looked at the art of American artist James Rizzi for inspiration for these colorful cardboard buildings. Rizzi’s illustrations, especially scenes from New York City, capture creative color combinations and comic-like details. Symmetrical Beetles Drawing bugs, beetles, and other insects is a great way to introduce the concept that drawing is as easy as connecting a series of lines and shapes. Beetles are particularly interesting because they are symmetrical. Teaching a symmetrical drawing in a school setting is always popular as the teacher can introduce vocabulary and math concepts. Georges Rouault Painted and Printed Royal Figures This project inspired by French painter Georges Rouault simplifies the drawing by separating the background from the figure. While this step is optional, creating a metallic jacquard background is a great opportunity to introduce printmaking and create an opulent backdrop. Van Gogh Flowers Learning how to draw sunflowers in the style of Vincent Van Gogh was a staple in my art room. Every year, my second- and third-grade students learned a few simple steps to draw the complicated mass of sunflowers as shown in Van Gogh’s sunflower series.
