IT’s Support Concerns • Internally disconnected IT support efforts • Insufficient feedback loop from researchers • Unclear mapping between support effort and need • No clearly defined services / expectations • No-Growth funding model • Missing Governance Framework
Proposed • Collect existing IT research-support-oriented staff and form a focused team • Allocate one unfilled FTE position to augment team • Recommend support models in at least 3 areas: • End user workstations • High performance hardware • Associated OS • Limited set of software • HPC facilities • Electro-Mechanical
Implementation Concerns / Issues • Mission focus must be aligned w/ campus need • Team should be co-located (space) • Research community input needed for services definition • Staff funding challenges
