East Jessamine Middle School ISSP Project Year End Report May 7, 2009
Overview of Management Plan Objectives: 1. Create resource binder of research-based math and reading interventions for middle school students. 2. Create a system of interventions that are aligned with our district’s pyramid of interventions (RTI) plan. 3. Bi-weekly review meetings for students in Level 1 to monitor progress.
Activities 1. Review intervention resources. 2. Determine the resources that are most effective for middle school students 3. Place selected resources in a binder. 4. Create a school-level pyramid of interventions with systematic interventions, processes and check points. 5. Utilize the district Level 1 progress monitoring form.
RtI at EJMS • High quality instruction and interventions matched to student needs. • Frequent monitoring of progress. • Changes in instruction and interventions as indicated by data.

Challenges • Data monitoring that is consistent. • Good instruction vs. Research-based Interventions at Level 1. • Protecting the fidelity of programs. • Change of mind set about how students enter special education or have an IEP or 504 plan.
Sustainability • Use of an RtI binder, blog, trainings on specific programs. • Continue bi-weekly meetings with teachers and data reviews. • Creation of an intervention specialist in math and reading who can provide Level 2 and 3 interventions. • Training teachers on the latest brain research regarding reading and math problems.
