  2. Cultural Misconceptions Many countries have stereotypes, in our presentation we will discuss how people from different countries view each other. This will help us not to discriminate against different cultures. This is becoming increasingly important as in today's society travelling to other countries is becoming more popular.

  3. Stereotypes of Ireland Typical stereotypes of Ireland: • Drink lots of Guinness and Irish Whiskey • Everyone has ginger hair and freckles • Leprechauns exist • All Irish people eat is potatoes • Sectarianism and the “Troubles” • All houses are thatched and burn turf • Traditional Irish music

  4. Stereotypes of Denmark Typical stereotypes of Denmark: • Drink lots of beer (Carlsberg, Faxe Kondi) • Vikings are thought to have been Danish • The little mermaid statue – Copenhagen • The Tivoli Gardens – Copenhagen in centre of town • Love fish, sometimes raw!

  5. Stereotypes of Germany Typical Stereotypes of Germany: • Masculine features • Blonde hair, Blue eyes • They’re efficient people • Beer – Germany’s favourite drink • Albert Einstein – Intelligent people • Autobahn- parts with no speed limit

  6. Stereotypes of France Typical stereotypes of France: • All wear stripy tops • Have moustaches • Garlic round their necks • Eat a lot of baguettes, cheese, snails and frog legs. • Drink a lot of wine • Always travel by bike • Good lovers!

  7. Stereotypes of Hungary Typical stereotypes of Hungary: • Traditional dancing and music • Colourful National Costumes • Hungarian Horses • Goulash • Peppers • Dragons thought to have been from Hungary

Stereotypes of Italy Typical Stereotypes of Italy: • Love eating pasta and all eat healthily (use olive oil) • Home of the Pizza • All love their ‘mama’s’ • Big Families – i.e. Mafioso • All drives small cars and scooters – Fiat, Vespas • Very Religious • Style and are big into fashion • Football mad

  9. Ridiculous preconceptions • While reading over our presentation we realised just how ridiculous some of our stereotypes really were. We feel that you really need to visit a country, get to know the people and experience the culture, before making any judgements. We should learn to appreciate the richness of other customs and traditions and accept them.
