Hill or Mountain?? What is the difference?
Peak • the pointed top of a mountain or ridge
Atoll • Atolls are islands formed by coral reefs
Butte • Buttes are lone hills of hard rock, with steep sides and flat tops.
Mesa Like buttes, mesas are flat-topped rock hills with steep sides, but they are larger than buttes.
Plateau • A plateau is a large area of high, flat land with steep sides.
Volcano • mountain or hill, usually having a cuplike crater at the summit, formed around such a vent that ash and lava go through
Plain • a plain is flat and has rich Soil; it is often used as farmland
Valley • more or less flat and relatively low region drained by a great river system.
Dune • a sand hill or sand ridge formed by the wind, usually in desert regions or near lakes and oceans. In what country would you find a dune?
Canyon • a deep valley with steep sides, often with a stream flowing through it.
Glacier • mass of ice formed from snow falling and accumulating over the years and moving very slowly, often descending from high mountains
