2. A man lived in a tall building in the city of Moscow.

3. He liked lived there. It was usually very quiet, and he could see the park from his window.

4. There was only one problem: the man upstairs. Every night, the man upstairs came back late. He always took off his boots and threw them on the floor.

5. At this time, the man downstairs was trying to sleep. But every night he heard the noise upstairs. Bang! One boot. Bang! The other boot. He found it very difficult to sleep and he was rather angry with the man upstairs.

6. One day, the man downstairs decided to talk to the man. He went upstairs and knocked at the door. The man opened it.

7. With a smile the man from downstairs said:“ I’m sorry to trouble you.” “ What is it?” asked the man.

8. “ Well, every time you get back at night, you drop your boots on the floor. It happens every night. The noise wakes me up! Would you please not do this?” “ I’m very sorry,” said the man. “ I won’t do it again.”

9. The next evening the man upstairs came home from work late as usual. He was feeling very tired. He took off the first boot and threw it on the floor. Then he remembered the man downstairs. So he took off the second boot and put it under his bed very quietly.

10. He had his supper, listened to the radio, read a newspaper and then went to bed. He was just falling asleep when there was a loud knock at the door. He opened it and saw the man from downstairs.

11. “ Please!” said the man from downstairs. “ Please drop the other boot! I was waiting for the sound of the other boot! I can’t get to sleep!”
