Point of View • This law was a response to the weakening of the original fugitive slave act, and was an attempt by slave owners to strengthen their rights to own slaves.
Inferences/ Outside information • Abolitionists nicknamed it the "Bloodhound Law" for the dogs that were used to track down runaway slaves.
