ICE Series™ Undercounter and 30” Single Evaporator Units This module will cover the basic cleaning procedures for the ICE Series™Undercounter and 30” wide single Evaporator units.
To insure economical, trouble free operation of the Ice-O-Matic® Cubers, it is recommended that the following cleaning be performed AT LEAST every six months. Local water conditions may require the cleaning be performed more often. CAUTION: Always were protective eyewear and gloves when performing maintenance or cleaning on the ice maker or related equipment. Also as Ice Machine cleaners are acid based, it is highly recommended all ice be removed from the storage bin prior to cleaning.
Start the cleaning process by turning the water to the unit off. Turn the Selector Switch to the WASH position then press and hold the PUSH TO PURGE SUMP button until all the water has been purged from the unit.
Add the recommended amount of nickle-safe ice machine cleaner to the Trough after mixing the cleaner with water as directed by instructions on the back of the cleaner bottle. Turning the Selector Switch to the WASH position, allow the cleaner to circulate through the system for 15 to 20 minutes to remove mineral deposits.
After turning the water supply back on to the unit, press and hold the PUSH TO PURGE SUMP button until all of the cleaning solution has been purged from the Water Trough. Then release the button and allow the Trough to refill. Now turn the water supply to the unit back off. Press and hold the Purge Switch a second time, insuring all of the cleaning solution is removed from the unit, then release the button. Now turn the Selector Switch to the OFF position.
Remove and inspect the inside of the Splash Curtain. If there are still minerals on the inside of the Curtain, further more in-depth cleaning may be needed. With a cloth or soft bristle brush and ice machine cleaner solution, clean the inside surface of the Splash Curtain.
Inspect the Water Trough. If a moderate to heavy amount of minerals remain, you may consider replacing the Splash Curtain and running another cycle of ice machine cleaner through the entire system. If mineral accumulations are light, you can continue the cleaning process.
Water Distribution Tube Water Pump Tube Water Trough Remove the Water Pump Tube, Water Trough and Water Distribution Tube. Disassemble the Water Distribution Tube by twisting each end into the three pieces (one outer tube and a two piece inner tube) and place in a container or sink covering the parts with ice machine cleaning solution.
While the parts are soaking, now is a good time to wipe the interior surfaces and the bin with a cloth or soft bristle brush and the ice machine cleaner solution. When finished, be sure to wipe all surfaces clean with fresh water and a cloth.
This is also a good time to clean the Condenser Coil. Using a soft bristle brush and a vacuum, brush VERTICALLY up and down the condenser to help remove dust and dirt. DO NOT FLATTEN THE FINS of the Condenser. Any fins that are flattened must be straightened. Should a Condenser be clogged with grease, it will have to be chemically cleaned and it is recommended that a Certified Technician be contacted.
“Bump” You can again use a cloth or soft bristle brush to clean the Water Trough, but a bottle brush will be needed to clean the inside of the Water Distribution Tube and the Water Pump Tube. Then reassemble the Water Distribution Tube making sure the “bump” indicators are pointed up. When cleaning is complete, rinse thoroughly with fresh water and re-install the parts on the unit.
Once the components are reassembled on the unit, fill the Water Trough with an approved sanitizer. Mix this solution according to instructions on the back of the bottle. Turn the selector switch to WASH and allow the solution to run through the system for 10 to 15 minutes. Turn the water supply back on the unit. Press and hold the PUSH TO PURGE SUMP button until all of the solution is out of the Trough, then allow it to refill with water, then purge a second time.
While the sanitizer is running through the system, again use a cloth or soft bristle brush to wipe all interior surfaces and the inside of the bin with the sanitizer solution. Any sanitizer that is left can be poured down the bin drain line to help with any mold or algae build-up. Be sure to rinse with fresh water when finished.
Now turn the selector switch to ICE and discard the first two batches of ice. The cleaning procedure is now complete.
