A Made-up Presentation Because I have no prior presentations to present.
Understanding of the Assignment • I read through the section about the Wiki assignment. • I watched J. Zemmer’s demonstration on how to join the Wiki. • I followed those instructions. • I am waiting on approval for my request to join. • I read through the description of the assignment again.
Still not sure I understand • So the content of slides does not matter, it is how the material is presented. • We are to identify what works for presentation and what does not. • Doing this will provide us with a list of “Best Practices” for a subsequent assignment • So this is kind of like practice….
Suggestions • This slide and those preceding it are boring. • Use some color! • Where are the pictures? • Black and white is so Ben Stein.
Good points about the preceding slides • Bullet points are easy to read • Too much info on a slide is overwhelming • Using bullet points allows for further discussion because the student is not caught up in reading the slide.
Experimenting with paragraph format • If I type a really long paragraph on the slide. Do you think you will read it all? Do you think this is a good way to present material? Will you be able to listen to what I am saying if my spoken word differs from that which is on the screen? How does it make you feel if I read this paragraph to you word for word?
Same idea with bullet points Problems with Paragraphs • May not read all of the words • May not be able to focus on written & spoken word simultaneously • May not like “being read to”
The End
