Usos de subjuntivo Subjunctive exists in English , though only rarely does it differ in form from the indicative. Porejemplo I wish I knew…. If I had a million dollars … If I were… The subjunctive is used after verbs of will and influence, verbs of emotion and verbs of doubt and denial. We are going to to treat becoming proficient in subjunctive as a process, adding a few uses at a time!
1. Ojaláque • The expression ojaláque is always folllowed by subjunctive! • The use of que with ojalá is optional. • It means “I hope” or “hopefully” and originally came from an arabic word meaning something like “may Allah grant that.”
2. Quizás, Tal vez • These 2 expressions most often signal uncertainty of some kind. They mean “maybe, perhaps” in English • When they indicate uncertainty or doubt they are followed by subjunctive. ( this is most of the time) • So, for our purposes at present we will assume that they will be followed by subjunctive.
