  4. Nike … Yes, but…. There is still struggle Because we as believers have a new nature we have … new desires and these new desires (the heart of flesh) powered by God’s Grace lead to… obedience, but...

  5. Two Enemies A Christian faces two enemies which want to lead us into sin... the devil and our own sin nature

  6. The Devil 1 John 5:19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

  7. Nike over the Devil 1 John 4:4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

  8. Nike over the Devil 1 John 5:18 We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.

  9. Nike over the Devil Satan is: a created being and can do nothing other than what God allows him to do… he is subject to the sovereignty of God... he is not omnipresent, omniscient or omnipotent, he is… A tool in God’s hand

  10. Satan is… a tool in God’s hand for living out Romans 8:28 Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

  11. Our Sin Nature Satan’s lies do appeal to our sin nature, which is… the old nature with which we were born and which is still with us. James 1:15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

  12. Nike over our Sin Nature 1 John 4:4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

  13. God also removes from us the desire to sin: Genesis 20:6 Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that you have done this in the integrity of your heart, and it was I who kept you from sinning against me. Therefore I did not let you touch her.

  14. How is this Done? Proverbs 21:1 The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.

  15. Our Role… 1 John 5:16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death

  16. Our Role God often removes the desire within us to sin by moving us to obey... and this he does by moving us to the Word and His commands... and He uses us to keep each other accountable

  17. 1 Thessalonians 5:14 And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.

  18. The Closing 1 John 5:20,21 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

  19. 1 John We are victors…. NIKE We are Overcomers of the World…. We are Children of God…. All by… Grace

  20. How do Respond to 1 John? We stand in awe of what He has done We stand in awe of who He is We are humbled in who we are before Him We THANK HIM and we PRAISE HIM
