Physical Attraction and Dating • Infatuation – “crush”( feelings of intense attraction to another person) • Ex) Bieber, Usher, Megan Fox, etc. • By dating someone, you learn about his or her interests, personality, abilities, and values • Practices differ with individuals, families, and cultures

  3. Physical Attraction and Dating cont. • Going out as a group • Going out as couples • Steady dating • Has some drawbacks (limit chances to meet other people, feel pressured to make decisions about sex) • Can lead to marriage

  4. Violence in Dating Relationships • Dating violence – Pattern of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse that occurs in a dating relationship • Cycle of violence • Tension-building stage • A violent episode • “honeymoon” stage

  5. Violence in Dating Relationships cont. • Warning signs of abuse • Date is jealous • Date makes all decisions • Date has history of violence • Date Rape – when rape occurs during a date • Date rape drug – “Rohypnol” (colorless, odorless, and tasteless)

  6. Violence in Dating Relationships cont. • Ending the abuse • Some may think it’s normal • Possessive partner might be romantic • 1st step – admit that the abuse exists • 2nd step – realize that you are NOT to blame • 3rd step – seek support (family, friends, hotline, teacher, doctor, etc.
