He thought that using one simple and clear reason for killing Caesar was enough to keep the people on his side. That reason was that Caesar had too much ambition, and Brutus reminded them twice of this fact. Caesar needed to die to keep Rome free, and Brutus even offered to kill himself if Rome needed that, too.
