  2. Other Forms of the Future Tense • The future is formed by adding a sigma to the end of the future tense stem (lu,sw).

Other Forms of the Future Tense • The future is USUALLY formed by adding a sigma to the end of the future tense stem. • We noted that sometimes it is formed by adding a different sort of “s” sound like when e;cw turns into e;xw. • The “s” sound changes to es when it follow a liquid noun (l, r, m, n, nouns in which air flows around the tongue or nose). • Consonants in such a case don’t like to separate the resulting vowel clusters…

  5. Other Forms of the Future Tense • When the liquid is a r and it is followed by an i, it often drops the i to go from present to future. • Thus ai;rw (“I take up”) becomes avrw/ (“I will take up”).
