WHAT IS A SKILL? • Knowledge is what you should know • A skill is what you should be able to do--a task or series of tasks that you should be able to perform
LEWIN’S STEPS IN CHANGE • Unfreezing the present level • Moving to the new level • Refreezing the new level • This stage may be eliminated since the life of a corp. is now 40 years.

EXPERIENCE • Experience • What happened? • How do you (did you) feel? • What were the causes and consequences?
UNDERSTAND • Understand the experience in light of guidelines in text or lecture • Contrast your own conclusions with the literature. • What alterations in behavior might have changed the
PRACTICE • What do you want to improve? • Which principles do you want to target? • How can you best do that?
APPLICATION LEARNING CYCLE • REFLECT--evaluate performance during practice to enhance understanding • What went well? What was difficult? • What would you do differently next time? • APPLY: plan for improved practice--What are the 3 most important lessons learned? What is the most impt. application? • How can you successfully implement the plan?
SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING • You are placed in the role of proactive learner--learning from personal experience in and outside of class to encourage continuously improvement of skills.
