SOS Telemedicine for Venezuela Venezuela, a country of contrasts • This network has grown up in the context of a Venezuela which is characterised by : • A marked inequality in access to / quality of health care in rural areas. • A high incidence of serious diseases (malaria, dengue, Chagas disease, respiratory illnesses, diarroeas, parasitic illnesses) • A lack of doctors and nurses to provide healthcare services

SOS Telemedicine forVenezuela Universidad Central de Venezuela The Universidad Central de Venezuela, founded in colonial times and reformed by Simon Bolivarafter Independence, is the country’s primary University, because of its contribution to science and education, and its role in the resolution of the huge challenges facing Venezuela. It currently has around 8000 lecturers and 60.000 students, sharing a University campus which is also a UNESCO cultural heritage site, in recognition of the magnificent architecture and integration of the arts.

SOS Telemedicine for Venezuela Objective The design, development and implementation of a Telemedecine programme that uses ICT to connect remote centres of primary care with clinical specialists in the Universidad Central de Venezuela, to improve the quality of national public health services, and provide continuing education to healthcare workers and their communities.
