Introduction Networked Media Numerous electronic devices are connected to a network, and media files are accessed from anywhere via the network Europe is well placed in the worldwide race to develop the networks and service infrastructures of the future.
Current Situation Creation Storage Adaptation Consumption • Centralized content creation in professional production houses • Static AV delivery (prescheduled broadcasts) • “Few to many” mode content delivery • TV guide the most widespread tool for AV content search
Technical Challenges (1) • User centric content creation and consumption • Each device can be content source • E.g. home appliances (sensor, IP camera, fridge) • (Mobile) multiview and content consumption • Diversity in terms of • Types (encoding, formatting) • Quality • Content adaptation • Seamless flow of content from one device to another • E.g. from PC, to STB (Set Top Box), to mobile phone • Network infrastructure • Interoperable infrastructure for seamless multimedia networking
