  1. Rihanna Representation Task. Annotate the following photographs and analyse how Rihanna is being represented.

  2. Aimed at a male audience, because of the way she is dressed. The clothes that reveal a lot of her body, so men would be more inclined to look at the photo. By using 3 bold plain colours, its showing off how little she is wearing. She is making eye contact with the audience, therefore appearing more flirtatious.

  3. A natural setting- this photo was taken in a hospital. A real situation, no posing for a camera No eye contact, with a sad face with multiple bruises. Appearing to be sad, making the audience feel sympathy for her. This photo wasn’t taken for Rihanna to look good. It’s an appeal to feel empathy, as she has just been beaten up.

  4. Her pose, suggests she is hiding something. Is she was not wearing her dress her arms would be hiding her body, therefore this pose carries sexual implications. She has black eye liner on, this makes her eyes stand out, this suggests innocence. We get the same effect with the white dress, as this represents innocence, and virginity. She has long hair which is covering part of her face, this also carries sexual implications.

  5. She is at a basket ball game. • Seen as more of a masculine side of her. • Base ball cap- relaxed. • A natural image- she hasn't been asked to pose in a certain way. • See seems happy in a chilled, relaxing environment. • The real side of Rihanna. • Red lips- sexual implications
