  1. IMechE Chartered Engineer Application Process If you dream of becoming an IMechE Chartered Engineer (CEng), then read this blog. Here, we will tell you about the whole process of applying for the CEng status. So, read the whole to the end. IMechE Chartered Engineer application process: The following are the six steps of the application process: Check your qualifications: The authority will check your academic profile to make sure that you satisfy the benchmark for registration. You can use the IMechE Qualifications checker or reach the IMechE Membership team to check your qualifications.

  2. Complete the application form: ? If you have used its Qualifications checker to confirm you fulfill the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer and you have not already registered with the Engineering Council as a CEng, you can apply online. Besides that, you can also submit a paper-based application (editable PDF). For that, you need to read its Chartered and Incorporated Engineers Application guidance. ? If you are on its Monitored Professional Development Schemes (MPDS), you need to submit an application via the MPDS route. ? If having already been professionally registered with another institution, you can join IMechE using a very straightforward process. Hire an IMechE expert to know more about this. Get support from two sponsors: You will be required to have two sponsors to agree to sponsor and sign your application. You have to be sponsored by one Chartered Engineer. The sponsor can be registered with any Engineering Council-listed professional engineering institution; they are not required to be one of IMechE Members. Your second sponsor could be another registered engineer or your line manager. Your sponsor mustn’t be a direct family member. Submit your application: On completing and proofreading your application form, you need to submit it to the authority with any application fees and any supporting documents needed. If you are on its Monitored Professional Development Schemes (MPDS), you need to submit an application via the MPDS route.

  3. Professional review interview: Once the IMechE authority has processed your papers, it will invite you to have a professional interview. You can select your preferred interview location on your application form, face-to-face, virtual, Armed Forces or internationally. You need to contact it to confirm your availability for an interview. If you don’t do it, then your application may be delayed. The professional review interview is a compulsory part of the membership process. Every Chartered Engineer, regardless of their discipline, has to have an interview. The interviewers will pay heed to your most recent and related experience. They will judge you only on the basis of the information you provide in your application and your performance in the interview. The interview will consume nearly 45 minutes. The last step of the application process: When you have completed your interview, your evaluators will make one of two recommendations, elect to membership or not. If your application is successful, you will get a letter and a certificate from IMechE’s President and Chief Executive confirming your attainment. After that, your name will be forwarded to the Engineering Council or Registration. Your name will find a place on the Engineering Council website on the first Thursday of the following March, June, September or December. On the other hand, if your application is not successful, IMechE will write to you and explain the reason for this decision. You will also be provided with some guidance as to how you may wish to address the concerns raised. It will help you submit your papers at a later date. You can request a copy of its interview paperwork, score and feedback. IMechE has an arbitration and appeals process, whereby any applicant who is not satisfied with the process may appeal within a given time period.
