What is a ballast ? To understand what is a ballast we must first understand how fluorescent tubes start. When switched on, the filament inside a tube heats up because of the electricity flowing through it, which heats up the gas and the gases emit light. But if the filament becomes too hot then the tube will burst rendering the fixture useless. This is where the ballast comes into the picture. The ballast regulates the current and decreases the voltage flowing through the filament thus keeping the fixture intact. www.ledmyplace.com

However, for the sake of convenience, some LED tubes support ballast and hence ease up the hassle of removing or bypassing it. 4FT LED Tubes www.ledmyplace.com Topic 02 comes here
Types of LED tubes based on ballast Type A These types of LED tubes are compatible with ballasts and work with a ballast only Type B These types of LED tubes are not compatible with ballast and only work without it. Type A+B These are hybrid tubes which can work with or without a ballast. www.ledmyplace.com
