  1. Three-Horned Dinosaurs: 5 Intriguing Facts About Triceratops The triceratops was an enormous animal, a ceratopsian dinosaur with three horns and a neck with a solid frill. They have a weird-looking face and a big skull that makes them distinctively fierce and attractive. Although the triceratops is famous for their peculiar features, there are many misconceptions about these frilly animals. Check out some intriguing facts that can blow your mind. Two-horned, not three The term triceratops is Greek for the "three-horned face" with tri, meaning three, Keras, meaning horn, and ops, meaning face. Now, the problem with this term is the smaller horn above its nose built with protein. This horn is keratin, a fibrous scleroprotein that occurs in the outer layer of the skin, and they are horny tissues such as hair, feathers, nails, and hooves. The other two horns are real bony outgrowths on the heads of certain ungulates.

  2. Skulls and more skulls When we talk about dinosaurs, the first thing that comes into our mind is a big animal with a large fleshy tummy and long-tail mammals walking on four legs. Meanwhile, triceratops had an odd structured body that consists of large bones from its head. Here, we are not talking about the skull and not the spine or limbs. Besides the skull, the animal had frills around the back of its head, making it massive bone across the spine. Many purposes of frills Triceratops has a prominent defense mechanism when confronted with other predators and enemies. This combat weapon is none other than its big bony frill that extended to its back. The frill is a flap of skin that features bright pigments made by numerous blood vessels. Scientists believe that such anatomical structure might have many functions, including signaling other members, luring opposite sex for mating, and alerting others when predators attack them. However, there could be more facts about the frill paleontologists are still trying to figure out. Parrot beak If you ever wonder about the existence of a giant bird in the gone era, the triceratops is a good example of a birdy animal. Although this species has no feathers or wings, it has one odd shape in the structure that is the mouth with the shape of a parrot beak. Someone could even point out the similarity between triceratops and turtles because both are reptiles with beak mouths. The beak has shearing teeth to chop hard vegetation such as coniferous trees. Feed for T-Rex Although triceratops looks tough inside and out, this animal was a feed for hunters like tyrannosaurus rex. Scientific studies show that T-rex preyed on our skull animal about 65 million years ago. However, triceratops was well equipped with horns and bony frills to protect themselves from larger predators. Most interestingly, that era was crucial in dinosaurs' history because many other animals went extinct in the same period. If you want to dig further about this large skull animal, find Triceratops hoof core for sale. You can find authentic fossils from a dealer that sells all kinds of dinosaur remains.
