Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) - a common dizziness disorder At FYZICAL, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is a disorder that we commonly treat. It is the most common cause of vertigo. It occurs when the microscopic calcium carbonate crystals known as “otoconia,” located in your inner ears, break apart and move around to different parts of the ear. When the crystals move into one of the six circle canals, which sense circular motions, they lead to a sudden spinning sensation. The crystal movement is typically provoked by certain body movements like sitting up from bed, rolling in bed, and bending over. Dizziness with BPPV is usually described as "room spinning" that lasts 5-15 seconds.
In order to treat this disorder, we perform canalith repositioning maneuvers. These maneuvers, such as the Epley maneuver, focus on treatment-specific head and body movements to remove the crystals from the circle canal and resolve BPPV symptoms. While general physical therapists might be able to recongnize crystals in the posterior canal, most are not trained to assess and treat all six canals. And, just one FYZICAL difference for the treatment of dizziness. Our therapsists have all received advanced training, making us the Siouxland area specialists for treatment of dizziness and imbalance. that, is Computerize Dynamic Posturography (CDP) – unique tool for balance – A If you think you may be living with a balance or gait disorder, we can find the best treatment methods for your condition with our CDP technology. Computerized Dynamic Posturography, or CDP, is an important type of vestibular testing that is comprised of both a visual booth and a computer-controlled platform. These are both effective tools in analyzing the sensory and motor components of balance within the body. While it does not necessarily act as a diagnostic test, it does help in determining the very best course of treatment and rehabilitation, targeted toward the specific needs of each person. By determining where the problem areas are within the vestibular system, our physical therapists can better treat the issue at its root, so you can find relief faster.
