  2. Population Growth • Lumber industry attracted immigrants to Wisconsin and to Chippewa Falls. At first they were mostly Canadian and Yankee immigrants, then later German and Scandinavian. • Even though the mill failed and changed ownership many times since it was first built in 1836, the town still continued to grow as a result of the mill.
