Freeborn County Partners In Prevention (FC-PIP) (under Freeborn County Family Services Collaborative ) • Community Coalition made up of 40+ community members from multiple sectors • Mission: Prevent and reduce Freeborn County youth use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs • Community Issue • Funded by federal grant until Sept 2013, with potential 5 more years

  2. Kids who use… • Lower grades • Increased use of violence • Increased risk of sexual assault • Increased risk of teen pregnancy • Other consequences…..

  3. Had at least one drink of alcohol on at least 1 day during the 30 days before the survey. **p<.0001 after controlling for sex, race/ethnicity, and grade level.

  9. Some policy, systems change accomplishments… • City of Albert Lea Social Host: Dec. 2008 • 4H Bldgs Fairgrounds Perm. Signage – No Smoking w/in 25 feet :Aug. 2010 • Freeborn County Social Host: Dec. 2010 • Permanent Drug Drop Box : Feb. 2011 • Riverland Tobacco Free Campus: July 2011 • 7 Worksites Tobacco Free: July 2011 • Alden Conger School Chemical use policy – penalties increased/stronger than MSHSL: Sept. 2011

Agree to….. • Assess: A full assessment of chemical use prevention in District 241 • Capacity: Mobilize/build capacity to address needs • Plan: Develop a comprehensive strategic plan to reduce youth use in District 241 • Implement: policies, systems, environmental changes • Ongoing Evaluation • Sustain

  11. FC-PIP/MPRC will help: Resources available to you at no cost: • Assessment/Planning Coordination Services & Facilitation • Training for staff • Evidence Based Curriculum for schools (Early Childhood -12th grade) • Evaluation Services
