Expanded FormUsing Exponents • Multiplying a number by a power of 10 • Any nonzero number raised to the zero power = 1 • Example: 78,045 • Expanded Form: (7 x 10,000) + (8 x 1,000) + (4 x 10) + 5 • Expanded Form Using Exponents: (7 x 10^4) + (8 x 10^3) + ( 4 x 10^1) + (5 x 10^0)
Practice • What are two ways to read 6^3? • Write 15 x 15 x 15 x 15 x 15 in exponential form. • Write 35,402 in expanded form using exponents.
