My Life in the Digital World By Dornel Etienne Digital Literacies Cycle 2
Introduction • My life in the Digital World is composed of four different parts: Internet, Music, Games, and Cell Phone. • My digital life has completely blended with my life but is the dominant part of my life.
Internet Perhaps the biggest part of my digital life, Internet has become less of a place for work for me and more of a place of relaxation and play. Having completely flexibility in what I can watch and do, as well as millions of sites to go to, Internet’s main appeal to me are the sites: Amazon, Youtube, and Facebook. Other minor appeals are online reading and free downloads.
Other Web Sites Youtube Facebook
Music Music is also another big part of my life. Growing up, I have always been surrounded by many different types of music. R&B, Rap/Hip-Hop, Reggae, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Pop, and Soul were all the types of music that shaped my personality and digital life. With technology like the iPod and it’s many variations, websites like Napster and Youtube and programs like the recently shut down Limewire, music has become a major part of my life, digital and real.
Games Games are the second biggest, if not the biggest part of my digital life. The time that I’ve spent playing every game I’ve played would probably only be rivaled by the amount of time I’ve spent listening to music. Plus, with current video game consoles being able to interact with other people wirelessly across the internet, competitive gaming has increased the attracting forces of videos games in my life.
Cellphone Although it doesn’t really have much hold on my life, cellphones still have a rather decent part of my digital life. I usually don’t use my cellphone unless I really have to. However, I used to be a text/call addict but with certain changes in my social life came the loss of my cellphone habit.
Conclusion • Looking at my digital life broken up into pieces has made me see what my life has become and although it seems like I spend all my time on the computer or playing games, I know that isn’t the case at all anymore. Now, I hardly use the computer or play games but pretty soon, my life will go back to how it is described here.
