In 1620 a group of people named the Pilgrims, moved to America
They sailed on a boat called the Mayflower. There were 110 Pilgrims.
The first winter was very hard. It was very cold and the Pilgrims had no food.Only 50 survived
The next year, they met an Indian named Squanto. He spoke English and helped the Pilgrims to survive and to work the new soli, to grow corn and pumkins, to know animals as the turkey
The Pilgrims decided to celebrate the rich harvest and invited the Indians . The feast lasted 3 days.
In 1863 Abraham Lincoln declared the 4th Thursday of November as national festival for Thanksgiving
Today on Thanksgiving day , American families come together to have a big feast. They eat turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, vegetables and… pumpkin cake.
