Who We Are… • Our clinic opened in late 2015 to serve the greater Springfield area, including Clark and surrounding counties. We are here to meet the unique needs of individuals struggling with chronic Overweight and Obesity. • The Weight Management Clinic merged with Dr. Andom’s General Surgery practice in 2018, to form a comprehensive surgical practice – Springfield General Surgery and Weight Management – with combined staff. • We moved from our original clinic in the Mercy Crest Medical Arts Building to a newly renovated much larger office suite in the Mitchel Thomas Center in October of 2018. The new space allows for 10 patient rooms, and less waiting time per visit for patients. We also now have space to hold information seminars and support group meetings on site, instead of at the main hospital. • This past fall we also welcomed Dr. Terry Carman to the program, expanding our surgical team as volume continues to grow
Program Offerings - Surgery • Our surgical program began in the summer of 2015, with the clinic opening officially with Mercy Health in December of that year. • Our surgical program and specifically Mercy Springfield Regional Medical Center was accredited by MBSAQIP in March of 2018 as a comprehensive bariatric surgical center. • Nearly all of our bariatric surgeries are performed robotically. • We offer Sleeve Gastrectomy and Roux-enY Gastric Bypass, as well as revision surgeries and follow-up care for patients with surgeries performed elsewhere • To date we have performed 314 surgeries, (avg 10.5 surgeries per month) and have over 150 patients active in pre-surgery state. • We offer new patient information sessions 2x/month and approximately 80% of attendees will register for an initial visit with a surgeon • From seminar, to complete surgical clearances and obtain insurance authorization, and have a surgery date is 6-9 months.
Program Offerings - Diet • In May of 2016 we added a Medical Weight Loss option (non-surgical, diet based weight loss) and partnered with Celebrate Nutritional Supplements to provide educational resources and options for protein supplements, vitamins, and snack foods. • We have had approximately 50 new patients per year since then join this program and currently have over 30 active in the program. • We began selling the Celebrate line of products in the office this month, offering a variety of protein supplements, snack foods and vitamins suitable for both surgical and non-surgical patients. All products are for sale to patients as well as the general public and employees. • Celebrate also offers all-inclusive kits for both medical weight loss and pre-operative liver shrinking that we have available to our patients.
Program Offerings - Medication • Our newest option for patients, is our Weight Loss Medication program • We launched the program this month, which will include not only provider interaction with the prescription medication, but group medication and nutrition classes and additional nutrition counseling available. • We will be working closely with the Cardiology team as well as Primary Care Providers as we continue to expand this program. • We will be requiring patients attend weekly weight checks and nutrition and medication education classes their first month on medication. • Patients will be guided through our comprehensive program so that as they transition off medication, we can continue to offer nutrition follow-up, diet based weight loss programming or transition to our surgical weight loss pathway depending on the patient’s needs.
Our Approach to Weight Loss • Our clinic offers a medically supervised and individualized approach to weight loss. • We offer a variety of pathways to best meet patients’ goals and needs. • Our surgical program is accredited by Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) . • We offer support groups, personalized meal planning, and access to our clinic for weigh-ins Monday through Friday: 8 AM – 5 PM. • With a wealth of professional experience, we strive to support our patients in their journey toward weight loss.
Who We Serve • We do not require a physician referral to attend a Weight Loss Information Seminar but once a patient is enrolled in our surgical program we do require the patient have a PCP and will need to obtain a letter of medical necessity for Insurance Approval. • If you have a patient you would like to refer to our program, please include the patient’s Height, Weight and BMI for appropriate scheduling. Referrals may be sent via Epic or faxed to 523-9935. Patients interested in surgery must first attend a seminar and we will schedule them for the next available. If they are interested or appropriate for one of our Non-Surgical options we will schedule them with the next available provider or the dietitian. • Who qualifies for our Programs? • Surgery • Patients BMI must be >35 with co-morbidities or >40 without • Medication • Patients BMI must be >27 with co-morbidities or >30 without • Diet Only • Patients BMI must be >25
