Keep Moving.. Milledgeville: Georgia's Fourth Capital • October 1807 -15 wagons carrying the public records of the state left Louisville for Milledgeville • For sixty years Milledgeville served as Georgia's capital city • As Georgia expanded west, the capital will move to stay center of the state
Last but not least…. ATLANTA • June 1868- an order was given to move Georgia’s capital from Milledgeville to Atlanta • July 4 1868- the first meeting of the legislature in Atlanta took place in the Atlanta City Hall and Fulton County Courthouse
University of Georgia Abraham Baldwin believed it was a government’s duty to help educate everyone. First Charter for a public University in the Country. Charter for UGA was established in 1785. Athens, Georgia First held classes in 1801. Originally called Franklin College - later became the University of Georgia.
