Brief life story • Nelson Mandela was born in the small village of Qunu. • He went to collage at forte hare collage in the small town of Alice. • He became president of the youth African national congress and spoke for them. • He married Evelyn Mase and had two daughters and one son. • In 1953 Nelson and his friend Oliver opened a legal practice. • He than married Winnie Madilkizla and had a daughter and two sons. • In 1963 in the rivonia trial Nelson Mandela was charged with sabotage and attempt to over throw the state. He spent 27 years in jail. • He was released from prison on February 11, 1990. • He then became the first president of the new government in an election in which all Africans voted. • He won the Nobel peace prize in 1993. • Nelson Mandela died in 2013.

  3. Information on Nelson Mandela • Born: July 18th 1918 in the village of Qunu in the Transkei territory of South Africa. • Death: December 5th, 2013. • Family: Nelson Mandela had four sisters. When Nelson was twelve this father (gladahendrymqhakanyiswa) died so Nelson was placed in the care of his uncle who was the tribal chief of another village. Nelson and his uncles son Justice became like brothers. Nelson married Evelyn Mase in 1945 then after his divorce he married Winnie Madilkizla. Nelson had two sons and three daughters. His first born sons name was Thembi. • Schooling: Nelson attended church school ran by missionaries. He studied English, the Xhosa language history and geography. After graduating nelson was enrolled in forte hare collage which was located in Alice, in the cape province. But Nelson was soon expelled for protesting against living conditions at the university. He than went to the university of south Africa in Johannesburg. • Work: Nelson Mandela became a member of the active African national congress in 1943. He eventually became president of its youth league. In 1953 Nelson and his friend Oliver Tambo opened the 1st black legal practice in Johannesburg. He then after he got out of jail he became 1st black president in the history of south Africa. • Location: Nelson Mandela grew up in the small south Africa village of Qunu then at the age of ten Nelson Mandela moved the village of Mqhekezweni. When he went to collage he moved to the small town of Alice, in the Cape province. He and his brother/cousin ran away to Johannesburg. He remained in Johannesburg.

Major accomplishments • Nelson Mandela was the first African American president of South Africa in may of 1994. • Nelson Mandela won a Nobel peace prize in 1993 for drafting the first south African democratic constitution , in which African Americans had the right to vote and where made full citizens.

  5. Personal reflections Savannah I think nelson Mandela was a very strong person who never gave up for what he believed in. Elizabeth I think he was a nice person.
