  16. Techniques to a well spoken impromptu topic! -Try to appear confident . . .even if you have to fake it! • Take a deep breath to steady yourself. • Pause to sip some water. • Give yourself a moment to prepare. • Look like you are thinking hard about your answer.

  17. Begin with a general statement or background information • This will give you more time to think while you are reciting facts.

  18. Try starting your supporting reasons with the word “because” • Do this until you can stay organized without it. • E.g. “Because of the rising cost of tuition, and because of the high price of textbooks, the University is going to have to change its policies…”

  19. As a general rule, answer impromptu questions by: • Making a single point • Giving reasons and examples to support your point, and • Restating the point.
