  2. A working definition ofinformation fluency (IF) “Information fluency is the ability to think critically in an information-rich and technology-intensive environment. Information fluent individuals know how information is organized, know how to find information, evaluate information, and use information in a way that is useful to others’ learning. Ultimately, the information fluent individual has learned how to learn.” (The University of Central Florida, 2009)

Analysis Background: • Long-standing goal • TILT task force on information literacy (2007-8) • Vision 2020 task force report (2007) • Strategic Plan (2007) • Library’s information literacy efforts • Face-to-face instruction: 500+ classes per academic year • Archives , CAT training • Online tools: LibGuides, web pages, tutorials • Other reference and outreach: e-mail, reference consults, Help Desk

Analysis • 5-10 years from now… • Three-pronged information fluency program • CSU Libraries: information literacy • TILT: critical thinking • ISTeC: technology literacy • “IF-infused curriculum” • Online resources (tutorials, etc.) for faculty/students • Campus collaboration to promote the program • Libraries to focus on IL piece, and collaborate on other pieces

  6. Prioritization • Internal: • High priority • External • Medium to high priority

Operationalization Action items: • Develop Libraries’ information literacy program • Outline future plans for CO150 instruction • Need for new instructional supports for all classes (tutorials, other virtual resources) • Establish collaborative structure with TILT & ISTeC • Create working group/task force to move the effort forward • Develop overall strategy • Partner with other units to acquire needed resources (time, skills, technical support)
