Engaging Hospitals • Existing Hospital Strategy Teams: key hospital personnel & OPO HD and ED staff • At smaller hospitals with no strategy teams, HD engaged CEO, DON, CNO, Heads of Departments and coordinated with OPO HD and ED staff • A “Bold Request” at Donate Life Champion trainings for hospital attendees to go and implement one activity
Collaboration is Key • All parties strategize on registry driven activities that will work best in their hospital and community • Tweak existing practices to further incorporate activities • Coordination takes place via in person, e-mails, and conference calls
Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital • 295 bed hospital • 3 ICUs, including neurosurgery • Have organ and tissue donor potential • Serve a multi county rural area • Have a Strategy Team in place • Hospital plays key role in engaging staff/ implementing registry awareness events in house and community
Accountability • Hospitals and OPO HD Department keep calendar of activities scheduled and completed • OPO HD reports to OPO ED Dept. who keeps official list of activities and Donor Registrations to submit to HRSA • OPO HD & ED share monthly info from KY DMV/Trust for Life program of Donor Designation Rate per county so hospitals can see how their efforts increase DDR in their counties
