  2. The Crucible is based on Salem witch trials that happened in the early 1690’s. It all started because of a group of young girls were afraid of being punished for their dancing in the woods. They threw the whole Salem village into havoc saying there are witches among them. Salem was a Puritan society so it is understandable how most people fell for the cry witch act. Puritans- A group of English Protestants who were strict religious people. One of the witch trials held.

  3. Everyone in Salem was paranoid on who could be a witch and then some people started to use the witch card to get rid of people in their way. With people watching for signs of witchery a perfect candidate would be John Proctor. He barely attended Church and with his attitude against Reverend Paris he was a scapegoat. The Salem witch trials ended in 1693. Salem witch trial hanging

  4. The 1984 Pogrom lasted for 4 days after the assassination of IndiraGandi. Pogrom- A organized massacre against helpless people. Sikhism- The doctrines (body of teachings) of a monotheistic religion founded in northern India in the 16th century. Founded by Guru Nanak by combining elements of Hinduism and Sikhism. Anti-Sikh riot in 1984

  5. Indira wanted to get rid of Bhindranwale so she launched Operation Bluestar. Bhindranwale and 493 other sikh civilians were killed in the process. Indira Gandhi Bhindranwale Indira Gandhi- Prime Minister of India during 1980-1984. Assassinated October 31st 1984. Bhindranwale-Religious leader of Sikhs. Was a threat to IndiraGandi, he was gaining favor. Operation Bluestar- Indian army ordered to attack the golden Temple and capture Bhindranwale. Golden Temple- Holiest shrine within Sikhism.   6. Obviously after the attack the Sikh were not happy with Indira. Indira’sbodygaurds were Sikhs. They planned their revenge against her and killed her when she was alone. Indira was rushed to AIIMS as fast as possible but there was nothing that could be done. GianiZail Singh was a Sikh, When he got to the institution he was stoned.   7. After Indira’s death was heard on All Inda Radio, for four Days Sikhs were murdered. Many riots were organized even by politicians. Some politicians even gave alcohol and transportation to rioters. On November 4th it finally ended after law and order were restored. Sajjan Kumar Sajjan Kumar- One of the politicians against Sikhs. • Riot on October 31st.

  8. Berofe The 1942 Pogrom in Russia there were already crimes against Jews. It started in 1861 when serfs werereleased. Non- Jews were jealous of the Jews economic advances in such little time. Serf- (Middle Ages) a person that is bound to the land and owned by the feudal lord. 1981 Pogroms in Russia- Massacres against Jews that lasted four years. Red dots signify locations of Pogroms.

  9. In 1981 Alexander the 2nd of Russia was murdered by revolutionaries. His son Alexander the 3rd was angered and automatically blamed Jews. The Jews got tired of suffering the restrictions and violence most of the Jewish population migrated to the United States. Alexander the 3rd Alexander the 2nd

  10. Minsk Ghetto fence After the Germans took over Jews were sent to ghettos like the Minsk ghetto. Pogroms started again and many people were abused. Eastern Belorussia was easy to wipe out because it was assimilated for much longer than western Belorussia. Only the children and Elderly were killed right off the bat, the Jews that were not killed off were forced laborers. Nazi’s taking pleasure in injuring a Jew

  11. Belorussia was a place that had a high population of Jews. In 1940-1941 the Communist Party was trying to assimilate the Jews, but then the Nazi’s invaded in 1941. Belorussia- Belarus Assimilate- to absorb a group of people into a community

  12. In 1942 revolts in the ghettos began so, the Germans began destroying the established ghettos and underground groups. The Jews that were able to escape fled, some joined partisans in Russia. Partisans- A strong non-Jewish organization that strongly opposed Nazi rule. Partisans
