Cartograms • What is a cartogram? • A cartogram is a specialty map,sometimes drawn with straight lines, in which countries or regions are sized based on a set of data, such as population figures, rather than land mass. • The general shapes and relative locations of countries or regions are drawn similar to a regular map. • Remember the cartogram we have seen already in this chapter?

What does that mean? • What countries are largest and what does that mean? • Why do you think these countries are so large? • What does each square represent on your cartogram? • Are there any surprises here? What did you expect or not expect?
