Energy efficiency improvement in city: • Reconstruction of biological waste water treatment plant; • Further development of the water supply sector in the municipality; • Regional waste management project; • Reconstruction of streetligtning in the municipality; • Tukums municipality is one of the most active participant among Latvia municipalities in the international INTERREG cooperation projects related to spatial planning and environmental sector, here it can be noted such projects as Baltic Sea Planet, Baltic Pallete II, Baltic cities’ forum for sustainable development BUUF, Regional cooperation for waste management RECO, Baltic Biomass Network BBN. In total Tukums city has 8 friendship cities in 8 countries.
General information: • DH company “Tukuma Siltums”; Municipality has 100% share in company; • DH company covers approximately 80% of DH market in town; • Main consumers are households (80%) and public buildings; • The main branches are wood processing, food, textile industry, machinery; • One of the major producers of furnaces/boilers based on local biomass – JSC “Komforts” is operating in Tukums city.
Bioenergy in Tukums Town • Reconstruction of the DH system was initiated in 1999 and proceeds in seven stages; • during the 1st and the 2nd stages the four-pipe heat supply system was eliminated ; • In the 3rd stage a new boiler-house unit was built, and two new biomass-fuelled boilers were installed; • During the 4th and 5th stage a part of network was reconstructed; • During the 6th and 7th stage was reconstruction of network.
Consumption of resources • Wood chips+30% hog fuel with a moisture content of 40-55% - introduced instead of previous fuel – heavy fuel oil (the residual fuel oil is preserved as reserve as well as for covering peaks); • Annual wood fuel consumption ~65 000 loose m3; • Wood fuel storehouse 3000 m3
Other energy efficiency measures • Signed European Covenant of Mayors – March 18, 2009; • ERDF public project application in activity 3.4.4.1. "Thermal stability improvement measures in apartment houses”; • Heat insulation of schools buildings; • Arrangement of water meters in buildings • Etc.
