  10. Concept of transitional arteriesThe transitional zone is a segment of the arterial tree, where elastic-type wall architecture is relayed by one of muscular type. Transitional arteries are characterized by a different ratio of scleroproteins (elastin,collagen) and vascular smooth muscle cells in the tunica media (Janzen 2004).
