- born on July 19, 1688 in Milan, Italy - learned to paint from the influence of Andrea Pozzo, S.J. - worked as an architect and an excellent painter - he continued Ricci's ways by dialoguing with Chinese artists and introducing Western techniques in China Early Life
* Castiglione can be considered as a worthy disciple of Matteo Ricci because of their similarities. He also continued what Ricci has left behind before his death due to sickness.
- he entered the Society of Jesus at the age of 19 and afterwards went to Genoa for further training - he was already an excellent painter upon joining the Society of Jesus - he became a Jesuit brother - at the age of 27 he received instructions to go to China as a missionary to preach and teach Early Life

- he did the emperors' bidding by painting churches specifically in Portugal and Macao -he became the court emperor of China. - he became the most well-known European-Chinese painter because of his skill in Chinese and Western painting Legacy
- Able to design lots of historic and symbolic places like the Old Summer Palace -Renowned to be one of the greatest artists and craftsmen who was able to contribute to China's culture and way of life through paintings - his drawing / painting was used to be the background of a certain post card, that's how talented he is.
-he had a hard time in the first few years of his life in China because of communication -he had to adapt to China's rules and way of life - had a hard time to preach and convert Chinese people because of their strict belief and religion Hardships and struggles
- Even though he faced those difficulties, he still had time for God and he still persevered through hard times - he shared his talent for the welfare of the Catholic Church and for the people - he never left God in his life especially during all the struggles he faced Admirable traits :)
