Peer Review: Weighty Word Stories • First Reading: • Just listen. • When the reader finishes the story, immediately write down the weighty word and its definition. NO HINTS MAY BE GIVEN AT THIS POINT, NO REREADING. • Second Reading: • As you listen, write down two phrases or sentences that are memorable or catchy. • Write down two suggestions for revision. • On a scale of 1 to 5, how well can you hear the writer’s unique voice (style/personality)? (1=generic; 5=very unique) • On a scale of 1 to 5, how engaging was the story (entertaining, funny, enjoyable)? (1=Umm…; 5=lots of fun) • Go over the rubric and story together. Check the writer’s use of the sentence patterns, schemes, tropes, dialogue, etc. • At every stage, help the writer by offering suggestions for revision. • Use the proofreading list as a guide for evaluating the writer’s grammar and mechanics.
