I was wrong, Camping admitted. I now know any attempt to predict the date of Christ’s return, Camping noted, is ill-advised. For Matthew 24:36 is right: “…of that day and hour, knoweth no man.” (Matthew 24:36) Thus “… [I’ve] learned a very painful lesson, that all of creation is in God’s hands and He will end time, in His time, not ours!...” And so our calling: to search the Bible “…even more fervently…not to find dates, but to be more faithful in [our understanding of God]…”[Letter from Family Radio, March, 2012].
“Yes I am coming soon” (Revelation 22:20). And John responds with disinterest? No, but expectancy: “Amen, Come. Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:20)
“…we wait for the blessed hope, the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness…” (Titus 2:3). And so Paul admonishes in 1 Thessalonians 4: “….do not be ignorant…or grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope…” (1 Thessalonians 4:13).
We will see “…the new Jerusalem coming down from heaven from God…There will be no more death…or crying or pain for the old order of things [will have] passed away. [And God will declare] ‘I am making everything new!...Write this down” God declares. “For these words are trustworthy and true…” (Revelation 21:1-5).
“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven…” 1 Thessalonians 4 tells us “…and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive…will be caught up together with them…to meet the Lord in the air…” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).
“And so we will be with the Lord forever. Paul declares in 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18. “Therefore encourage each other with these words.” (I Thessalonians 4:17-18).
That’s why as Jesus descends from heaven in 1 Thessalonians 4 – Jesus descends with a loud command, with a “…trumpet call…” (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
"The Day of Judgment is either approaching or it’s not” – Davenport declared. “If it is not -- there’s no cause for adjournment! If it is -- I advise we be found doing our duty! And so brothers, I propose -- let the candles be brought in immediately -- so we can get on with the business of the colony!”
