  1. Avery School – August 16, 2010 What is AYP? • AYP stands for Adequate Yearly Progress • Means progress towards 100% of students achieving proficiency by 2014 • Measures progress against specific expectations each year

Consequences When A School Does Not Make AYP • Schools that fail to make AYP for two consecutive years in either subject for any group must be “identified for improvement” • All schoolsidentified for improvement must develop a plan for improving student performance • Only Title 1 schoolsthat are identified for improvement must offer school choice. Avery is a Title I school.

  3. Composite Performance Index (CPI) Multiply the number of points by the number of students at each performance level, then divide the total number of points by the total number of students (example below)

  7. Is transportation available for children who exercise their right to attend another school? Subject to a funding cap established in the statute, districts must provide transportation for all students who exercise their school choice option under Title I. They must give priority to the lowest-achieving children from low-income families.

  8. How we will address meeting AYP at Avery School? • Year-long remedial program for Avery students • Focused on students in Warning and Needs Improvement • One day per week , 45-minutes before school or 1 hour after school • Ten-week MCAS preparation program for all Avery students • No fee • Two days per week, before and/or after school • Hiring a new Math Coach assigned to the Avery School • Math Coach will work with both students and teachers • Additional Professional development for Avery Staff • focused on math and literacy outside of instructional time • funding provided by state and federal grants targeting the Avery School • Schedule adjustment to increase time on learning • Avery School will benefit from additional 316-B grant funding • Increased communication between parents , teachers and administration
