Lesson Seven: Customizing Columns in Patient Lists In this lesson you will learn how to Customize Columns within Patient Lists, including information on how to: • Add Columns within Patient Lists • Remove Columns within Patient Lists • Rename Columns within Patient Lists • Return to the Default Column View within Patient Lists • Troubleshoot Column Customization System Messages Lesson Seven

  2. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists • Column Customization allows users to quickly determine which pertinent pieces of information [columns] that they want displayed within Patient Lists that they create. • In addition, Column Customization allows users to determine the layout of the selected columns within the Patient List. Lesson Seven

  3. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists Although the system administrator-defined columns appear automatically (by default) within Patient Lists, users can determine which additional columns that they want displayed in order to easily access pieces of patient information. Lesson Seven

  4. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists To begin customizing columns that are displayed within Patient Lists, a user must access the Customize Columns Tool. Choose the Customize Columns Icon on the Patient List Toolbar; OR Right-click from within a Patient List and chooseCustomize Columns. Lesson Seven

  5. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists Either method will trigger the Column Customization window to display. Lesson Seven

Customizing Columns in Patient Lists Adding a Column within a Patient List From the Customize Columns Tool window, choose the column that you want displayed within your Patient List from the Available Columns category. Select it by clicking it. Click on the right arrow to move the column to the Existing Columns category. Click on the Save Icon to save your changes. For detailed information on Column Descriptions, refer to the Patient Lists manual on KDNet. Lesson Seven

  7. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists(continued) When the Customize Columns Tool is closed the column that you added to your Patient List will now be displayed. Lesson Seven

Customizing Columns in Patient Lists Removing a Column within a Patient List From the Customize Columns Tool window, choose the column that you do not want displayed within your Patient List from the Available Columns category. Select it by clicking on it. Click the Remove icon. Click on the Save Icon to save your changes. Your changes have to be saved by clicking on the save icon in order for them to take effect in your Patient List. Lesson Seven

  9. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists(continued) When you close the Customize Columns Tool the column that you removed will no longer be displayed on your Patient List. Lesson Seven

  10. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists From the Customize Columns Tool window, choose the column that you want to re-position by clicking it. Use the and to position the column heading where you want it to fall on the displayed Patient List. Repeat re-sequencing until all columns are listed the way that you want them displayed within your Patient List. Click on the Save Icon to save your changes.   11. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists (Continued) Close the Customize Columns Tool. When you return to your Patient List, the columns will be sequenced in the manner that you selected. Lesson Seven

Customizing Columns in Patient Lists Renaming a Column within a Patient List From the Customize Columns Tool window, choose the column that you want to re-name by clicking it twice (allow about one second between each click). When the column name is selected, enter the new name for the column. Click Enter when finished entering the new column name. Click on the Save Icon to save your changes. Lesson Seven

  13. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists (Continued) Close the Customize Columns Tool. When you return to your Patient List, the columns will renamed with the names that you specified. Lesson Seven

  14. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists Returning to the Default Columns within a Patient List From the Customize Columns Tool window, click the Return to Default Columns icon. You will receive a message box, prompting you to confirm that you do want to return the columns that are displayed in your Patient List to the settings established by the system administrator. Click Yes on the message box. Lesson Seven

  15. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists Returning to the Default Columns within a Patient List Your Patient List will now display only default columns. All other columns (such as Consulting Physician, Primary Care Physician, and Visit Reason, etc.) that you added during column customization will not display. Lesson Seven

  16. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists REMEMBER Column Customization Changes that are made within your Patient List do not appear to other users – even if they have proxy access!!!! Lesson Seven

  17. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists Troubleshooting / Column Customization System Messages Use the next few slides as help when attempting to troubleshoot system messages and errors during the Column Customization Process. Lesson Seven

  18. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists Error: Columns must be in the Existing List before removing any. Explanation: This message is displayed if you click the Return to Default View button when there are no columns in the Existing Columns list. Click OK and continue Lesson Seven

  19. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists Error: One or more columns already exist in the list. Each Column may be added only once. Explanation: This message is displayed when a column has been selected for inclusion in the Existing Columns list, but it already exists in that list. Click OK, then continue to another selection. Lesson Seven

  20. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists Error: Please select a column first. Explanation: This message is displayed if the Delete button is clicked without selecting a column. Click OK, then make a selection and continue. Lesson Seven

  21. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists Error: This will delete every column and every sort for any locked columns! Would you like to continue? Explanation: This message is displayed if you click the Return to Default button, and there are items in the Existing Columns box. Click OK if you want to return to the default (or system) view, or click Cancel if you want to keep the existing list. Lesson Seven

  22. Customizing Columns in Patient Lists Error: Would you like to save your changes? Explanation: This message is displayed when the Close button is clicked, but changes made were not previously saved. Click Yes if you want to save changes, and No if you do not. Lesson Seven
