Understanding the Aims • What is improvisation? • What do you need in order to be successful at improvisation? • Acceptance • Participation • Creativity • Focus
Jump on Jackanory • As a group we will tell a story around the drama circle, one sentence per person. • Aims: • To accept and build on each persons idea. • Really try to build previous ideas into your contribution to make the story flow.
I love you honey but I just can’t smile! • One volunteer sits in the centre of the circle. • The goal is to make the person laugh by saying “I love you honey but I just can’t smile!” • The person in the middle must reply with “I love you too”. • Think about imaginative use of voice and gesture. • If you laugh when trying to make the central person laugh you must sit in the centre. • No touching!
Chopping channels • In groups of 4/5; • You will each be given a television genre (EG. hospital drama, soap opera, cop drama, adverts, cookery show, DIY homes show). • Very quickly thought shower ideas for each genre. • You have 3 minutes to plan what you might do. • The teacher will then flick between different TVchannels. • You must stop and start depending on which channel is being watched.
Remember... • What do you need in order to be successful at improvisation? • Acceptance • Participation • Creativity • Focus
Opening lines, ending lines • In pairs; • OPENING LINE: “You’re wearing my socks.” • One minute to create a short dialogue. • You now have one minute to add on the ending line: • ENDING LINE: “But the sandwich belonged to me.”
Think back... • On whiteboards: • Write the numbers 1 to 3. • Think back to today's lesson and write down who you think the top 3 improvisers in the class are. • What was it that they did successfully?
