  2. What is a chemical reaction? • A) Two substances acting together to form an element • B) A process that always results in the interconversion of chemical substances • C) A process where substances are changed by physical means • D) Two mixtures forming together to further create substances

  3. Chemical Reaction: • A process involving two categories of matter in the reaction • Reactants→Products • Different Substances

  4. Hydrogen Fuel Cells -Gasoline<Hydrogen -Much more efficient -Studies at Stanford Univ. by ProffesorStalbot have led to the conclusion that using hydrogen and oxygen to create electricity could be the future for fuel.

  5. Solution: • A research team from the University of Central Florida (UCF) has found a way to create a sandwich like structure that uses cheaper and more abundant elements to make the fuel cell more efficient. The elements they have chosen are gold and palladium. By creating these structures, more energy is converted, and because the more expensive and rare metals are not used, the cost could be significantly less.

  6. Cancer-Treating Antioxidants • Antioxidants used to be believed to help in the treatment of cancer/diabetes. • Not the case. • DNA is actually attacked by reactions between the antioxidants and genetic material. KJ Myung is a leading researcher on the project.

  9. Snail Electricity • A team of scientists at Clarkson University has found a way to generate electricity from biofuel cells. When a chemical reaction occurs in the snail’s organs, the cells capture the energy given off. This could lead to a revolution in the usage of nanotecnology.
