What is task analysis? Task analysis… takes any task and breaks it into small steps
Example Hand washing can be broken down into many smaller steps:
Why is it important? • The task is easier to do! • The person feels less overwhelmed! • Everyone feels successful ! • It works!!
How to get started… 1. Think of a task a person wants to learn Make a sandwich Paint a picture Get ready for bus Play cards
Stop…think about the person • Does the person need lots of steps to learn the task? • Does the person need only a few? • Where does the person need to start?
Next… 2. Make a list of all the steps. 3. Add pictures, if helpful. Steps to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich: Step 1. Spread peanut butter. Step 2. Spread jelly. Step 3. Press 2 slices together.
Now its your turn… Step 1. Thinking of a task? Here’s one: brushing hair
There’s no magic number… Step 2 – List the steps • Pick up hair brush • Brush hair from top of head down • Repeat • Put brush down
These pictures might work… Step 3. Add pictures
Remember… Teach the person only one step at a time until they have learned it. Don’t forget to praise the person! Praise often!
